Passion and Politics 2005, at the Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh, was my first installation beyond photography. The exhibit included artist books, broadsides and ultraviolet lighting.

The exhibit had two rooms, an outer foyer and an inner cylindrical library reading room.  The left chamber of the reading room housed three artist-books of poetry; Blues not Blues by Terrance Hayes, Blind Desire by Jeffrey Thomson and Flinch by Jim Daniels. The right chamber consisted of one book, the bible, in a glass library case. The bible was deconstructed and rebound with an inlayed purple leather cased users guide. My recently religious studies graduate son Jake Marsico wrote the guide.

The newly founded Dionysus Press published the artist-books and broadsides. Cryptic messages were printed into photographs and broadsides, made visible only under the ultraviolet room light.
